Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Phi Kappa Pi Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted 16 students to its Phi Kappa Pi honor society on April 17, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Kappa Pi, the Business and Economics Department honor society, is open to business, accounting, and economics majors. Selection is made by department faculty. Membership is open to those with junior or senior status, a department GPA of 3.4 or higher, and a College GPA of 3.25 or higher. Candidates for membership must also exhibit participation in department, college, or community activities demonstrating leadership and non-academic involvement.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 13 students to its Pi Mu Epsilon honor society on April 16, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. The Pi Mu Epsilon national mathematical sciences honor society is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Phi Sigma Iota Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted 24 students to its Phi Sigma Iota honor society on April 13, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Sigma Iota, the Department of Languages honor society, recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the study or teaching of any of the academic fields related to foreign language, literature, or culture. These fields include not only modern foreign languages, but also classics, linguistics, philology, comparative literature, bilingual education, second language acquisition, and other interdisciplinary programs with a significant foreign language component. Phi Sigma Iota is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages, with 250 chapters of Phi Sigma Iota at institutions of higher learning in the U.S., Mexico, and France.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted 31 students to its Kappa Delta Pi honor society on April 12, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Education students are eligible for membership in Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education. Founded in 1911, Kappa Delta Pi represents knowledge, duty, and power. Pioneering from its beginning by including women as well as men, KDP grew from a local chapter to the international organization it is today, comprising 600 chapters and more than 40,000 members. Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Margaret Mead are just a few of the historically known members.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted six students to its Phi Sigma Tau honor society on April 7, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Sigma Tau, the international honor society for philosophers and philosophy majors was founded in 1930; today it has more than 200 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The purpose of Phi Sigma Tau is to encourage interest and activity among students and to promote ties between philosophy departments in accredited institutions. Phi Sigma Tau publishes a journal, "Dialogue," for student contributions in all areas of contemporary philosophical research.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Theta Alpha Kappa Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted four students to its Theta Alpha Kappa honor society on April 7, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Theta Alpha Kappa is the national honor society for religion studies and theology. Established in 1976, today the society includes more than 200 U.S. chapters ranging from small religiously affiliated colleges to large public research institutions. It is the only national honor society dedicated to recognizing academic excellence in baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate students and in scholars in the fields of religious studies and theology. Students must have a 3.5 GPA in their major studies and a 3.0 GPA overall.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 14 students to its Alpha Kappa Delta honor society on April 12, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. AKD is dedicated to the ideal of Athropon Katamannthanein Diakonesin, or "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service." AKD seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Psi Chi Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted nine students to its Psi Chi honor society on April 5, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Psi Chi, the Psychology Department honor society, was founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Sigma Pi Sigma Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted four students to its Sigma Pi Sigma honor society on April 13, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Sigma Pi Sigma, the Department of Physics national honor society, exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics, encourage interest in physics among students at all levels, promote an attitude of service of its members towards their fellow students, colleagues, and the public, and to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. Founded in 1921, Sigma Pi Sigma is a member honor society of the Association of College Honor Societies and has some 75,000 historical members. Election to Sigma Pi Sigma is a lifetime membership.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 3 students to its Pi Sigma Alpha honor society on April 11, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society and is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. There are nearly 700 chapters on campuses across the country. The Alpha Theta Omega chapter at Lebanon Valley College formed in 2014.

Lebanon Valley College inducted one student to its Phi Alpha Theta honor society on April 3, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Alpha Theta is the history national honors society that requires its members to have a department GPA of at least 3.1 and a college GPA of at least 3.0. Additionally, any potential members must have completed at least 12 history credits, though membership is not limited to history majors.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 141 students to its Sigma Alpha Pi honor society on April 10, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Sigma Alpha Pi is the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. The Society serves as a powerful force of good in the greater community by encouraging and organizing action to better the world. Students are selected for induction based upon their GPA and level of involvement. The Society is based on six main tenets for achieving success: finding a vision, setting goals, persevering, taking risks, pursuing your passion, and continuous improvement.

Lebanon Valley College Students Complete Spring Break Service Trip to Florida

Twenty two students and staff from Lebanon Valley College just returned from an alternative spring break service trip to St. Augustine, Fla. The trip, which took place from March 5 to March 12, was the first time the College has participated with non-profit organizations Council on Aging, the St. Gerard Pregnancy Center, and the St. John's Housing Partnership. They seek to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Lebanon Valley College Awards First Annual Student Innovation Fund Grants

Nine Lebanon Valley College student proposals are one step closer to implementation thanks to inaugural Student Innovation Fund grants announced by LVC President Dr. Lewis E. Thayne. Nine grants were awarded to 20 students for projects ranging from sustainability and outdoor appreciation to student programming and the arts.

Lebanon Valley College Students Perform in the Play "Last of the Red Hot Lovers"

This spring Lebanon Valley College's Wig and Buckle Theater Company will perform Neil Simon's 1969 play "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" as part of its 2015-16 Diamond Season. Since 1935, Wig and Buckle has performed musicals and plays for the enjoyment of LVC students and members of surrounding communities.
