LVC Choirs Perform in Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick's Cathedral

College Choir and Concert Choir combine to perform in legendary NYC venues.

Annville, PA (04/07/2026) — Fifty singers, members of LVC's College Choir and Concert Choir, and representing numerous academic majors, sang in New York City in mid-March for a series of landmark performances at two of the nation's most iconic venues.

"Rehearsing for five days with other talented musicians, and, of course, performing while representing the LVC choirs was special," said Karly Kile '27 (Actuarial Science, Economics and Mathematics minors), who will work in Manhattan this summer for an actuarial health and benefits consulting internship. "It felt like more than just a trip to sing as tourists in NYC, and more like we belonged and had a purpose there, creating music."

The choirs, under the direction of Professor Tyler Canonico-Dilley, LVC Class of 2014 and Adjunct Professor of Music, presented a memorized 30-minute program of a cappella repertoire at St. Patrick's Cathedral as part of its afternoon concert series.

"Performing in the largest Gothic Revival Catholic cathedral in North America, which is the home of the Archbishop of New York, was monumental for our students," said Dr. Kyle Zeuch, Co-chair and Associate Professor of Music, who is on sabbatical this semester. "St. Patrick's provided a stunning and historically significant setting for the ensemble's performance."

The tour culminated with a performance at Carnegie Hall. The LVC choirs joined a 100-voice festival ensemble to present "Illuminare" by Elaine Hagenberg. Conducted by Zeuch, also LVC's Director of Choral Activities, and accompanied by the New England Symphonic Ensemble, the performance received a standing ovation. This five-movement choral-orchestral work weaves together sacred texts in Latin, Greek, and English to explore the tension between darkness and light, ultimately culminating in a powerful message of hope and renewal.

"Performing with other talented musicians at Carnegie Hall was definitely an unforgettable experience," said Peter S. Cantilina '28 (Audio & Music Production). "My favorite part was performing Elaine Hagenberg's "Illuminare" with my fellow choir members under the enthusiastic direction of Dr. Zeuch."

The concert, produced by MidAmerica Productions, concluded with a celebratory post-concert cruise on the Hudson River, offering breathtaking views of the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

Because of Zeuch's sabbatical, Canonico-Dilley stepped in and taught both classes this semester. All the students worked on the same music throughout the semester under his direction.
