Community Members Invited to Sustained Interfaith Dialogues about Vocation

September 26 at 11 a.m. in Frederic K. Miller Chapel

Annville, PA (09/14/2017) — At least one important aspect of attending college is to find one's way in life. Questions of vocation, calling, or finding one's purpose or goals in life is central to finding a place in the world and feeling a sense of well-being. Fredrick Buechner said "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." On Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m., LVC will host an interfaith dialogue involving representatives of local congregations discussing vocation in its broadest terms, to address not only our career or profession, but all aspects of having a fulfilling life. Panelists will engage in questions regarding finding one's vocation, broadly imagined. How do I find or choose a vocation in a world with so many options? How do I make my life a purposeful one? What obligations do I have to others in choosing a vocation?

This dialogue is the first of six sessions scheduled throughout the academic year. Panelists for the six sustained dialogues, now in its fifth consecutive year, will represent Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and nature-based religions. After panelists provide initial responses, the topic will be opened up to all participants for comment and question. A light pizza lunch will accompany the discussion, scheduled to last approximately one hour.

Sustained Dialogues (SDs), which are conducted at colleges and universities across the United States, typically focus on social issues within a particular area such as ethnic background, social status, genders, political affiliations, and religion. The dialogues at Lebanon Valley College are free and open to the public. To register, call 717-867-6135 or email nsmith@lvc.edu. Additional information about Sustained Dialogues and other spiritual events at LVC can be found at www.lvc.edu/events/category/spiritual-life/1/.
