Rachel Duong Named Allwein Scholar at Lebanon Valley College

2015 Sep 3

Rachel Duong of Harrisburg, Pa. was named an Allwein Scholar at Lebanon Valley College. Duong, a graduate of Harrisburg Academy, is pursuing a bachelor of science in neuroscience.

Now entering its second year, the John Bowman Allwein Scholarship, established by Dr. Lewis E. Thayne through the generosity of Dr. John "Jack" Bowman Allwein '56, continues to provide exceptional students with the tools they need to succeed at Lebanon Valley College. Selected from the brightest high school students that show interest in LVC, Allwein Scholars are chosen for their coursework and their promise of leadership.

The six Allwein Scholars selected for 2015 have demonstrated commitment in every aspect of their lives. For their prowess, they receive full tuition to LVC, as well as a $2,500 stipend every year, to be used for expenses from studying abroad, internships, and/or research. Dr. Jeff Robbins, chair of religion and philosophy, professor of religion, and director of the American Studies Program, will advise and mentor these students throughout their years at LVC.

The John Bowman Allwein Scholars Program, the College's most prestigious honor for incoming freshmen, is named in honor of Dr. John "Jack" Bowman Allwein, LVC Class of '56. Dr. Bowman's legacy includes the largest estate gift to the College in its history.
