Nathaniel Gibbons Earns CoSIDA Accolades

2017 Dec 5

Lebanon Valley College's Nathaniel Gibbons of Frederick, Md., has been named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America and to their All-District Team. It is the second consecutive year he has earned each of these awards while playing for the College's men's soccer team.

Gibbons, a graduate of Urbana High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in physics and mathematics at The Valley.

Gibbons was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team after earning a third-team selection a year ago. He is just the sixth repeat academic all-American in LVC history.

After turning in a breakout season last fall, Gibbons again anchored a defensive unit that recorded nine shutout victories and surrendered just 1.14 goals per outing. The senior was a driving force behind a group that allowed just 10.6 shots per contest, while holding opponents to a 0.419 shots-on-goal percentage. In 2016, Gibbons was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and earned a spot on the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Academic All-Conference Team. One of the College's prestigious Allwein Scholars, Gibbons carries an impressive 3.96 cumulative GPA as a Physics and Mathematics double major.

Gibbons helped lead the Flying Dutchmen (15-5-1) to their second consecutive ECAC Division III Championship in 2017. He was named to the ECAC Championship All-Tournament team for his efforts. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second time in as many seasons.

CoSIDA annually recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-American consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
