Marie Gorman of Hollidaysburg Spending Semester in Valladolid, Spain

2016 Feb 2

Marie Gorman of Hollidaysburg, Pa. is one of 19 Lebanon Valley College students studying away for the spring 2016 semester. Gorman is spending the semester in Valladolid, Spain as part of the College's study abroad program, which includes 12 foreign countries and two stateside internship opportunities.

This program offers students in any major who have completed coursework in Spanish at the intermediate-level plus one advanced Spanish course, the opportunity to participate in a total immersion cultural experience. Valladolid, the largest regional capital in Europe, is located about 100 miles northwest of Madrid. It is famous for the purity of its spoken "Castellano," or Castilian Spanish. The program is located at the Universitas Castellae, a private institution dedicated to teaching the Spanish language to university students from other countries.

Gorman, a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School, is pursuing a bachelor of arts in international studies and art and art history and Spanish at The Valley.

By the time they graduate, nearly 20 percent of LVC students will have spent time studying and traveling abroad, experiences that will shape and inform the rest of their lives as global citizens.
