2017 Oct 31

Lebanon Valley College's men's and women's cross country teams were in action at the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships on the campus of Delaware Valley University on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Flying Dutchmen had a strong outing, with 10 runners earning MAC All-Conference honors thanks to top-30 finishes.

Kate Mowrey, of Hanover, Pa., a graduate of Delone Catholic High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science.

On the women's side, Lauren Wick came home 16th in the field of 145 runners. As the top freshman to cross the line, she earned 2017 MAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year honors. She is the first LVC runner to earn the ROTY distinction since Megan Doris in 2013. As a team, LVC finished third out of the 17 competing squads, just two points shy of the runner-up spot.

Kate Mowrey's stellar sophomore campaign continued on Saturday. She wound up LVC's top finisher as her time of 24:13.6 was good enough to secure her the 13th spot. Hannah Kurek followed up an all-conference effort from a year ago with another one this fall. Her time of 24:14.6 was good enough to earn her the 15th spot. Following Wick was Lauren Decker in 18th place thanks to a time of 24:22.5. She was the fourth Dutchman to earn a top-20 finish.

Freshman Kelly Szalankiewicz added to her rookie season with a 22nd-place finish, while fellow frosh Keri Jones came home just a few spots behind her in 25th. Hannah Kramlik rounded out the top-30 thanks to her time of 24:55.1. Thanks to their efforts, Mowrey, Kurek, Wick, and Decker secured MAC Second-Team All-Conference honors, while Szalankiewicz, Jones, and Kramlik earned spots on the all-conference third-team.

On the men's side, the Dutchmen finished seventh as a team, with three runners earning top-30 finishes and all-conference recognition.

For the second consecutive season, Nick Scullin picked up all-conference honors. On Saturday, he came home 15th out of 158 runners thanks to a time of 27:27.4. He was followed by Garrett Santis in 20th position and freshman Jeff Campagna crossed the line in 25th.

With their top-30 finishes, the trio picked up all-conference awards. Scullin and Santis earned a spot on the MAC All-Conference Second-Team and Campagna ended up earning third-team all-conference recognition.
