Kali Rodgers Completes Service-Learning Trip to Puerto Rico

2017 May 26

Kali Rodgers of Lewisberry, Pa. recently traveled with 11 other Lebanon Valley College students and two faculty advisors on a week-long service learning trip to Puerto Rico. The College, which has hosted an international service trip each of the last four years, visited the same city in May 2015.

Rodgers, a graduate of Red Land High School, received a bachelor of science in neuroscience at The Valley.

Throughout the week, the students volunteered at Villas del Pelegrino (a retirement community), Hogar la Piedad (a center for victims of domestic violence), and Esculea Luiz Munoz Marin (an elementary school). At the school, students built a basketball court (cementing a designated area) and built benches around trees on the playground to help cover the roots and reduce risk of falls.

The students were accompanied by Dr. Ivette Guzman-Zavala, associate professor of Spanish, and Rev. Dr. Paul Fullmer, College chaplain and director of service and volunteerism.
