Dillon Dunn Competed in ACM Regional Computer Programming Competition

2014 Nov 6

Lebanon Valley College's Dillon Dunn of Culpeper, Va., recently competed in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Computer Programming Contest. The contest is a part of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Computer Programming Competition. Dunn is a graduate of Eastern View High School and is currently pursuing a bachelor of science in computer science at The Valley.

Twenty-four teams participated in the competition at the Shippensburg site. LVC students competed against students from Messiah College, Villanova University, Swarthmore College, Dickinson College, Shippensburg University, and others. Nearly 190 teams from the Mid-Atlantic States competed in the regional. Dunn's team finished sixth at the site and 46th in the regional competition.

Students in LVC's computer science major explore such questions as: What sorts of problems can you solve via computation? How do you solve a given problem most efficiently? How do humans instruct machines to solve problems, and in what language? What are the applications for computing technology and research-and what are the implications for our culture? The major emphasizes technical skill development and internship experience, leading to a virtual 100 percent employment rate for LVC graduates.
