David Herbst Named Conference Player of the Week

David Herbst of Mechanicsburg, Pa. is one of five Lebanon Valley College student-athletes who made some noise with their performances last week and earned conference player of the week honors. Herbst, a graduate of Mechanicsburg Area High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in actuarial science at The Valley.

Volleyball's Jess Attieh, men soccer's Cam Avery, men's golf's David Herbst, women's soccer's Meghan Ross, and men's soccer's Tyler Skye picked up MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week recognition for their respective sports.

Attieh led LVC to a 3-1 week, including a sweep at the 2017 Dutchmen Quad. The junior finished the week hitting .405 with 61 kills, 72 points, 15 digs, and 14 blocks. In a narrow loss to Arcadia to begin the week, she recorded 17 kills and two blocks. In a win over Misericordia, Attieh hit .588 with 11 kills and four blocks. She recorded 12 kills (.440 hitting) with four blocks in a victory over Neumann and finished the week with 21 kills (.429 hitting), nine digs, and four blocks in a sweep over Frostburg State.

Avery was stellar in goal for the Dutchmen and picked up MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week honors after earning two shutout victories last week. The senior opened the week with five saves in a 2-0 road win over previously unbeaten No. 20 Gettysburg. He made several point-blank saves in the victory. Avery followed it up with six saves in a 4-0 shutout of Keystone to pick up his fifth win of the season. He is currently posting a 0.43 goals-against average.

Herbst repeats as the MAC Golfer of the Week. He followed his solid performance the previous week with an even better one at the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational. Herbst won the event, which featured 135 golfers and 28 teams, including 11 teams from the MAC Commonwealth and MAC Freedom. The junior shot an even-round 71 to defeat the runner-up by one stroke. LVC finished third in the team standings, second among MAC Commonwealth teams.

Ross had a huge day and played a part in all three goals in LVC's 3-2 victory over DeSales to begin the week. The senior forward assisted on the game's first goal and then added her first goal of the match later in the first half to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead. In the 85th minute, Ross netted the game-winner on a breakaway.

Skye recorded six points on two goals and two assists to lead the Dutchmen to a pair of victories and pick up MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week honors. The senior assisted on the game's first goal, the game-winner, in a 2-0 road win over previous unbeaten No. 20 Gettysburg to begin the week. He followed it up by scoring two goals and adding an assist in a 4-0 win over Keystone on Saturday afternoon.
