Daniel Thompson of Central Islip Spending Semester in Shanghai, China

2016 Feb 2

Daniel Thompson of Central Islip, N.Y. is one of 19 Lebanon Valley College students studying away for the spring 2016 semester. Thompson is spending the semester in Shanghai, China as part of the College's study abroad program, which includes 12 foreign countries and two stateside internship opportunities.

This program offers students the opportunity to take an introductory Mandarin language course, combined with relevant contextual courses that will help the students further understand Chinese culture. The courses examine the development and role of a global China over recent years, with a focus on their history, culture, business and politics. A challenging part-time internship in a variety of disciplines is available to students, at all levels of language ability, in businesses, non-profits and non-government agencies.

Thompson, a graduate of Central Islip High School, is pursuing a bachelor of arts in sociology at The Valley.

By the time they graduate, nearly 20 percent of LVC students will have spent time studying and traveling abroad, experiences that will shape and inform the rest of their lives as global citizens.
