Daniel Thompson Recognized as Green Dot Ambassador at Lebanon Valley College

2017 May 18

Daniel Thompson of Central Islip, N.Y. is one of 50 Lebanon Valley College graduates recognized as Green Dot ambassadors during the College's 148th Commencement on Saturday, May 13. Thompson, a graduate of Central Islip High School, received a bachelor of arts in sociology at The Valley.

The students received green pins to wear on their commencement gowns in honor of their commitment to the Green Dot program, which encourages community members to take ownership of campus safety.

Each of the ambassadors completed Green Dot's Bystander Intervention Training where participants learn about factors that contribute to inactive bystander behaviors, the red flags of power-based personal violence, and safe and effective means to end incidents of violence. They also learn how to engage in shifting the cultural norms that have historically allowed these forms of violence to exist in the community.

Green Dot Ambassadors have taken a pledge to do something to end violence and spread the message that "No one has to do everything... Everyone has to do something".

Since its launch during the 2013-14 academic year, more than 350 students, faculty and staff have completed Green Dot's Bystander Training. Learn more on our website.
