Brandon Roy Presents Research at 20th Annual UMBC Symposium

2017 Oct 19

Brandon Roy of Lebanon, Pa. is one of six LVC science students who recently presented research at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences at UMBC in October. Roy, a graduate of Palmyra Area High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in biochemistry & molecular biology and global studies at The Valley.

Dr. Michelle Rasmussen, assistant professor of chemistry, accompanied the students to UMBC.

The undergraduate research symposium was sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (at the National Institutes of Health) and the University of Maryland. The highlight of the day was the morning and afternoon poster sessions showcasing research in the areas of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology.

Student researchers attended from both small colleges like LVC and top research universities such as Johns Hopkins and the University of Virginia. Students were judged on the quality of their presentation, their understanding of the work presented, their general knowledge of science in the area of their work and the level to which their individual efforts contributed to the findings presented and overall work accomplished.
