Allison Liu Receives Allwein Scholarship from Lebanon Valley College

Allison Liu of Blue Bell, Pa., is one of four prestigious John Bowman Allwein Scholars who arrived at Lebanon Valley College as part of the Class of 2021. This year's scholarship recipients include two student-athletes and two talented musical students.

The Allwein Scholarship, established through a gift from Dr. John "Jack" Bowman Allwein '56, provides full tuition to LVC, as well as a $2,500 annual stipend for such academic purposes as studying abroad, experiencing internships, or conducting research. Recipients are selected through a competitive process from among the brightest high school students who show interest in LVC. These scholars are chosen for their academic accomplishments and leadership potential.

This year's Allwein Scholars are:

Austin Cassatt, a dual major in biology and chemistry with a focus on pre-medicine from Etters, Pa.-Austin played baseball, competed on the wrestling team, and participated in Science Olympiad and Junior Leadership at Red Land High School. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.

Nicole Flohr, a dual major in global studies and politics from Chenango Forks, N.Y.-An active member of her high school community, Nicole served as class president, National Honor Society president and vice president of the school's volunteer club. She served as captain of the swimming, basketball, and track teams and plans to swim at LVC. Nicole graduated as the salutatorian of her high school class.

Allison Liu, a dual major in actuarial science and computer & data science from Blue Bell, Pa.- Allison is already familiar with LVC, after attending the College's summer actuarial science camp as a high school student. At Wissahickson High School, Allison was involved in Key Club, German American Partnership Program, Math Club, and Quiz Bowl. She served as a STARS tutor, played on the tennis team, and was a member of the symphony orchestra. A violin player, she plans to join LVC's orchestra.

Margaret McDonald, an audio & music production major from Dresher, Pa.-Margaret plays five instruments including the bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele. She arranged the music for the 2017 Broadway Wishes production, a student-run show for Make-A-Wish. Margaret attended LVC's VALE Media Industries Conference last fall.

The John Bowman Allwein Scholars Program is the College's most prestigious honor for incoming freshmen and is named in honor of the late U.S. Army veteran and well-known oral surgeon. Dr. Bowman's legacy includes the largest estate gift to the College in its history, as well as the establishment of several additional named scholarships that support other LVC students each year.
